A 30-day load survey is a method to measure and analyze a facility’s electrical load continuously over a month to determine maximum demand, ensure capacity, and facilitate safe, code-compliant electrical planning.

Purpose of a 30-Day Load Survey:

A 30-day load survey is conducted to:

• Determine the highest power demand in a facility, which is critical when adding new loads or upgrading electrical systems.
• Verify that existing services and feeders can safely accommodate additional equipment without risk of overloading.
• Provide accurate, real-world data for compliance with the NEC Section 220.87, which allows using actual load measurements when yearly utility data is unavailable.
• Identify phase imbalances, peak loads, and energy trends, helping facility managers optimize power distribution and prevent electrical hazards.
